I am trying to figure out diff between semi-transparent vs semi-solid. have lots of problems with peeling of stain on my deck that is exposed to a lot of sun. Does the semi-solid penetrate into the wood or does it sit on top and risk peeling? Also would a semi-solid require more maintenance? I am so tired of stripping and sanding my deck every other year and would like to just be able to reapply after cleaning with Restore.
As long as you remove all previous coatings, you can use the AC. All of the AC colors (including semi-solid) are penetrating stains as long as wood is prepped and the stain is not over applied. They can be cleaned and reapplied without the need for removal.
I used Behr 5 yrs ago-blah. it peeled, it got alot darker from amber, etc. What colors and semis do you recommend. I will order up to 3 samples. thanks, Bob
Remove the Behr first. Any color will work as long as the wood is prepped well and all old coatings are removed.
I have a pressure treated fir deck, I’m trying to choose a stain sample. Which color samples do you suggest I try. I want to keep it a fairly light color without it turning orange. More of a very light brown or wet wood look.
Try Natural. Take inconsideration that the lighter the color, the quicker it fade and needs to be reapplied.
Is the natural tone a clearcoat or does it have a pigment in it? Also I don’t see much difference in the Cedar tone vs the Amber. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Natural is very lightly pigmented. Amber is the same color tone as the Cedar tone Transparent but has three times the trans oxides for better UV protection.

It looked better when wet but remained orange when it dried. Do you have any suggestions of what we could do to fix this? The only thing you can do is change color or add some darker color to the cedar tone to change that some.
I love the look of the deck on your home page (which I understand is Mahagony on IPE). My deck is 9 year old PTP and was sanded to remove old stain. Can you tell me how the Mahagony would look compared to how it looks on your home page deck? I’m also considering the Redwood and Sierra Redwood. I’m looking for a deep, rich color. Because I live in Alaska and shipping is expensive, I don’t want to order mulitple samples, so any advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Mahogany color on PTP will look red in color. It will not look anywhere like the picture that is on IPE. You cannot achieve the look of the IPE with PTP. what you can do is mix colors. Maybe get Rustic Brown and Mahogany and mix the two?

I have an older (9 years) pressure treated deck. It previously had Behr semi-transparent stain. I used the Behr stain remover which did not work very well, so I then power washed and sanded the deck to remove the remaining stain. I will then use a deck cleaner. Is this sufficient prep for the AC stains?
Do you ship to Alaska without outrageous shipping charges? Do you know how your redwood color compares to Behr’s?

The Sequoia color is a semi-solid. Not the Sierra Redwood or the Redwood Tone.
New cedar deck, 75% covered. I want to keep the natural look as much as possible while providing the most protection, what color do you recommend?
I know letting the deck weather some is best but living in ND there aren’t too many warm weather months so we want to do it ASAP so we can enjoy the deck. If we clean and brighten properly we should be okay???
Thank you.
You have to wait 3 months after install then clean and brighten for the prep. Only one coat is needed. Look at the Amber Tint.

It is a transparent stain and not a solid color, correct? Also, flooring is 320 sqft so 2 gallons needed (not first coating)? Thank you for your help.
It is a semi-trans in color. One maybe two gallons. If you have a previous coating, it will need to be removed before applying the AC.

I am trying to order samples of your Hardwood Deck Stain, but it seems on the sample ordering page these are all the standard stains. Is there a way for me order the hardwood versions?
There is only one version of the Amber and Mahogany, not two different versions.
The products indicate they are for exotic hardwoods (yet there are only two products). I have new kiln-dried red and white oak outdoor picnic table and need a coating. Will this product work for oak? Also, is there a person to speak with at the factory?
Any of the colors will work on your wood type. You can call us during business hours at the number above.

It is in full sun most of the day and we are located in northern Ohio. We are interested in the red wood toner color is it sufficient for our climate or would you recommend a semi transparent?
A semi-transparent will last longer from UV so that would be better and last longer.

Should we stain now? or wait till spring? What is the proper temp. range to stain.
should we sand the floors prior to staining?
Do we need to let smooth cedar age before staining? what about rough cedar?
New wood should season outside after building for at least a few months so best to wait until Spring. For the prep you should use the Restore A Deck Kit and alight pressure washing or scrubbing.
