OR can we just use the cleaner? Once we use your stian would we then just use the cleaner and a recoat of stain?
For the prep of the penofin, use the RAD Stripper and Brightener Kit. When restaining down the road with the same stain, you will need the Cleaner kit for the prep.

We cleaned the deck prior to the wood sealer bein applied with TSP which raised and tore the wood leaving shredded fibres in between the boards, in the corners, and around all the posts of the deck. The wood is greyed. I would like to refinish it and have it more on the red side but be able to see the natural beauty of the wood through the finish but don’t know where to start. Can you advise which products to purchase and what to do with them. Thanks
Use the RAD kit for the prep. After the pre, stain with the AC. Look at Redwood Tone or Sierra Redwood colors.
can I go from stripper to cleaner to brightener – I need 10 of each. If I buy the kits then I get 20 bottles of brightener (perhaps I only need 10)- it is a 6000 sqft redwood deck with Penofin stain. It is in a severe fire zone in Boulder County and I want the stain that replaced it to contain fire retardant. Suggestions?
You do not need the cleaner if you are using the Stripper. Just buy the Stripper/Brightener Kit.
hi, we are currenlty plainig down the old wood on our deck and re-using, rahter than replacing. we love the color of the wood once plained, but we know we need to seal it as we live in florida, and the dock is in full sun all day.
do you have a selaer that is clear, rather than a stain ? i have a sample of your transparent, in natural tone, but it does change the color of the wood to a slight amberish color (darker than the wood
s natural tone). any suggestions are greatly appreciated !!
Clear sealers will not offer any protection from UV graying. It must be a colored stain for this to happen.

If the IPE Oil is still on the wood, then use the Stripper Kit.

I prepped the deck by power washing to remove the black mildew, grime, and accumulated yuck. Letting the deck dry out for several days we sprayed the deck with your semi-transparent cedar. Wow! It looked like a completely new deck.
This year we retreated the deck following a gentle pressure washing. It looks even better now.
Your product is the best I’ve ever seen for staining exterior wood. Thank you Armstrong Clark.
Thanks for the review!

I am ready to apply stain, but I noticed many scuff marks on the deck (likely from careless contractors placing tools on the wood). I plan on lightly sanding the deck to remove the numerous scuff marks. Should I apply the RAD kit again after sanding? Or can I just wash off the deck with water, let dry for a few days, and apply stain?
Make sure to sand all as spot sanding could lead to uneven application of the stain. Try to sand with no finer than 80 grit. Lightly wash with water after to remove sand dust and let dry before staining.

Apply the Step 2 right after you are done with the cleaning, while wood is still wet.

Not forever. Couple of years should be okay.

Depends on if opened, unopened, and how well you store it. Make sure it is stored in a climate controlled area and that there is 100% closure so there is not any evaporation.

We want to apply another coat of stain now. I know we need to clean again but should we also brighten before applying this second coat. We used rustic brown. We have some small holes now in the screen. Could the Brightener have caused this? Thanks.
You do not have to brighten, but you can. It does not harm screens.

just finished a 20’x30′ pressure treated deck…deck is located in Ontario Canada.
your stain is highly recommended through online reviews.
I was wondering which product of yours you would recommend and do you have any dealers in Toronto, Ontario, Canada?
thank you for your time…
No dealers there, but we can ship to you. Use the AC stain in any color that you like.

But I wonder whether brightening affects absorption of color pigment. Will the semi-solid look slightly different if applied on brightened versus non-brightened wood? If so, will it be darker? thanks
The brightener lightens the wood so yes the stain will look a little lighter in color once applied.

I have two Ipe Decks, one five years old that has never been stained and has naturally oxidized to the color of a Silver Back Gorilla and one that was built last month. I’m going to use a floor sander to prep both decks totaling about 700 sq. ft. Would not sanding negate my need for a cleaner and brightener? Thank You.
You have to clean and brighten after sanding to open the grain and remove any sand dust. Use 80 grit or less for the sanding.
Hi again – I’ve heard that you need to stain soon after sanding and brightening, and wanted to get your feedback on our schedule. We are sanding on the 11th, followed by cleaning/brightening on the 15th and staining on the 18th. Will this be optimal? Also, how long after staining before we can return furniture and traffic to the deck? Thanks!
Yes this will work. Wait 24-48 hours after staining to put furniture back on.

I also did not have time to do brightener step. It’s been a week and deck has dried quite a bit. What should I do now? Will deck be OK if I just rinse really well, apply brightener, let dry and then apply AC stain?
Can you let us know if we are on the right track with our restoration plan? The deck was painted ~7 years ago with a solid acrylic paint, unfortunately, which has mostly peeled off but is still present quite a bit under covered areas. After the rotten boards are replaced we are planning to have the deck sanded to remove all paint, then have a brightener applied, then one of your semi-solid stains. Advice? Thanks!
My question is I have rough areas, especially on the top rails, do I need to sand them down or will your product fill in these spots and give a smooth finish so I wouldn’t get splinters?
Armstrong Clark is a penetrating finish so it will not fill in anything. You would need to lightly sand it needed. Use 80 grit paper.
