Save Money on Armstrong Clark Stain and Restore a Deck Stain Stripper/Brightener Kit Combo Pack
This combo Kit comes 5 Gallons of Armstrong Clark Stain, 1 Restore A Deck Stain Stripper and 1 Restore A Deck Wood Brightener for prepping by removing previous coatings from your wood.
1 RAD Stripper and 1 RAD Brightener
Restore-A-Deck Stripper and Remover is the first and only powdered concentrated deck stain stripper that makes 5 liquid gallons.
When applied through a pump sprayer, the RAD stripper can remove most transparent, semi-transparent, and semi-solid deck stains. Total coverage is 500-1000 sq feet per 5 gallon when mixed.
The Restore-A-Deck Stain Stripper needs to be neutralized and this combo kit comes with the Restore-a-Deck Wood Brightener. The brightener covers 750-1000 sq feet per 5 gallon when mixed.
Removes:
- Transparent and Semi-Transparent Oil Based Stains
- Most Semi-Transparent Water-Based Stains
- Water Sealers
Important Note: Restore-A-Deck Stain Stripper may not fully remove Solid Color Wood Stains, Paints, Varnishes, and Excessively Over-Applied Acrylic Semi-Transparent and Semi-Solid Coatings. To remove these deck and wood stain types, use the RAD Paint & Solid Stain Stripper
1 Armstrong Clark 5 Gallon Pail
Armstrong-Clark’s deck and siding wood stain makes use of conditioning oils that part from the drying oils in the formula. The nondrying oils penetrate into the wood and take the place of the wood’s diminishing natural oils. This process revives and restores wood.
The drying oils stay on the wood surface and lock in the conditioning oils to produce a barrier that is dry to the touch. Armstrong’s deck and siding wood stain contain vegetable oils in addition to transparent pigments, solvents, mildewcides and water repellents.
- Application can be done in direct sunlight and on hot days. If the first coat of stain penetrates within 30 minutes an additional coat may be applied for extra protection.
- Applies easily by roller, brush, or airless sprayer. During spraying – going back over with a brush or roller will help give a more even appearance. After 24 hours any remaining puddles or glossy spots can be removed using a dry rag.
- Older wood is reconditioned by deep penetrating nondrying oils.
- Drying oils lock in the conditioning oils while pigments and water repellents lock out moisture and UV damage.
- Armstrong wood stain is compliant with all environmental standards.
- Does not contain any offensive odors.

Armstrong-Clark Deck and Siding Stain applies at 150-200 sq ft per gallon. Depending on wood porosity, actual coverage will vary.

Can leftover stain be stored in clean plastic bottles, such as those used for windshield washer fluid? They would then be stored in a cool, dark room.
No. Metal only. You can get empty gallons at Home Depot.
This deck is about 4 years old in Central Ontario, Canada. It is about 7ft above ground with good air flow all around. It was built from ACQ Treated Lumber (Brown-Treated), and has never been stained. My plan is to use your ‘Cleaner / Brightener’ Kit, but also I would like to sand the top surface of the deck and railings. Should sanding be done before or after the Cleaner/Brightener Kit and do you have any other recommendations before staining with AC Semi-Transparent Natural Oak Stain?
If you sand, do it after the Cleaner and before the Brightener. Use 60-80 grit sandpaper.
Thanks!
If I am going to re-stain my redwood deck that was stained three years ago with Armstrong Clark Sierra Redwood Stain, do I need to use the stripper/brightener combo, or will the cleaner/brightner be sufficient?
Cleaner and then the Brightener.
It appears that you do not have any package bundles that include the stripper & brightener for the 5 gallon Ipe stain but you do have for the 5 gallon exterior stain for other wood types. Based on that you have to buy the stripper brightener extra. So there is no savings like there is with the exterior stains for other woods. is that correct?
Just order the hardwood color you want on this page. The three hardwood colors are options in the color choices above.
I used AC cedar stain on this deck when I first built it about 5 years ago.. I tried to clean it and re-stain it With AC stain last year however I had issues with the stain sinking in and holding. In some areas the result looked dark and uneven. Not good. I had tried using a clean and brighter from local hardware store to prep the deck
What you see here l cleaned with some Dawn Dish soap and a deck scrub brush Today. Several areas the re-stained sections from last year have comes off and the wood looks weathered. Note we get a lot of black dirt build up over the winter here in Saskatoon ( at least I think it is dirt) something tells me it may be acidic. Areas next to house which seem to be protected by eaves are not affected.
can you offer sone suggestions on what need to do to restore? Strip? Clean and restore? Sanding?.
Strip and brighten for prep.
Hello, have a IPE deck approx 500sf about 8-10 years old and basically grey except when wet looks reddish. Have stained with penofine clear yearly except for last 2-3 years. Power washed last year. Ordering 5gal amber stain kit. do you recommend the booster and gel? As far as prepping should I consider doing a quick sand prior to using stripper/whitener?
Pennofine was a real pain as it dries quicky and found myself having to buff out whole deck of excess stain
Just the stripper and brightener. You do not need the additives. No need to sand.
what is purpose of gel and booster then
Hard to remove coatings. Penofin is not hard to remove.

Hi. We had our deck stained with Behr Waterproof garbage. It was peeling like crazy after our first winter so we decided to strip everything use RAD. We had to use a sander because it was so stubborn to get off. We have RAD brightener. My question is…. should we wait to stain because of the sanding or are we good to continue with the staining? Thanks
How fine of a sanding did you use for the paper?

Pressure rinse the wood to remove sand dust. Apply the brightener and rinse that after 20 minutes. You can then stain the wood after 48 hours of drying.
Hello, I ordered a sample of the natural oak for my new cedar deck. It seems like a really good product and I am excited to get started! The color doesn’t look at all like the sample picture here on the site. It is very dark and quite a reddish brown. I was hoping to stay away from the red tones and I am open to either the Transparent or Semi-Transparent stains. What color would you recommend? Please keep in mind that we live in a rural area so unfortunately we are not dirt free 🙂
Maybe the Rustic Brown but color varies based on your wood type and age. See this for new wood tips as well if you have not already: https://www.armstrongclarkstain.com/new-decking-and-armstrong-clark-stain

Yes, all the previous coating will need to be removed via stripping and or sanding.
Will these products work on a deck that has existing Exterior Latex Redwood Stain on it?
This varies based on the type of stain (solid, semi-trans, etc) it is and the brand of stain you are trying to remove. Do you know?
I would like to stain around a chlorine pool. will this product work. I do know this is a harsh environment.
It will work but excessive chlorine on a deck stain will “bleach” the stain. No deck stain would be resistant to this issue.
Currently have an IPE deck with two levels that was previously treated with DeckWise IPE oil and faded rather quickly even areas covered by roof. Would power washing without chemicals be better or how best to move forward with Armstrong product.
Thanks,
John
You will need to remove the old stain. If there are still remnants of the Ipe Oil, then you will need the Stripper Kit. If not, you can use the Restore A Deck Cleaner Kit. Never prep with just water as damage could occur.
