Armstrong-Clark’s deck and siding wood stain makes use of conditioning oils that part from the drying oils in the formula. The nondrying oils penetrate into the wood and take the place of the wood’s diminishing natural oils. This process revives and restores wood.
The drying oils stay on the wood surface and lock in the conditioning oils to produce a barrier that is dry to the touch. Armstrong’s deck and siding wood stain contain vegetable oils in addition to transparent pigments, solvents, mildewcides and water repellents.
- Application can be done in direct sunlight and on hot days. If the first coat of stain penetrates within 30 minutes an additional coat may be applied for extra protection.
- Applies easily by roller, brush, or airless sprayer. During spraying – going back over with a brush or roller will help give a more even appearance. After 24 hours any remaining puddles or glossy spots can be removed using a dry rag.
- Older wood is reconditioned by deep penetrating nondrying oils.
- Drying oils lock in the conditioning oils while pigments and water repellents lock out moisture and UV damage.
- Armstrong wood stain is compliant with all environmental standards.
- Does not contain any offensive odors.
Coverage Area
Armstrong-Clark Deck and Siding Stain applies at 150-200 sq ft per gallon. Depending on wood porosity, actual coverage will vary.

I am refinishing an older deck that has been stripped, sanded, and washed. It measures 5 x 10 and has railings on only two sides. I’d like to stain it with the Armstrong semi-transparent. Should I apply two coats? And…if so, would one gallon of the product be enough for two coat coverage? I have to mail order the product, so I want to be sure I have enough before starting.

i see that all your oil deck stains should not be thinned….Can boiled linseed oil be added?
my 18 year old wood deck is around 18″ off the ground….it is made of treated 2×6 (never been coated with any deck finish). i plan on removing all boards, running through my thickness planer and giving a quick sanding with 100 grit before applying your finish….do you see any complications?

Yes on the additive for mildew.
No, you cannot add linseed oil and there would be no benefit.
After your prep, you should clean and brighten for the final prep.

No need to worry about UV, so I don’t need much pigmentation. But I want the vibrancy that occurs when the wood is wet with oil or water. Thank you!
Natural is tinted and not clear so it will enhance the grain similar to as if wet with water. We sell online.
I’m hoping to by locally to save time and shipping fees, but I can’t seem to find any info on that. Surely you aren’t limited solely to online sales? Thanks,

Using the Natural means you will most likely have to prep and reapply every 12-18 months. Semi-trans will last closer to 2+ years. We would highly suggest trying some samples from our site.
I will try the samples….I can get back to the natural colour of the wood with the cleaner and prep even waiting until spring? I am in Toronto Canada and will have winter to deal with. Thanks again.
For the most part, you will be able to restore the natural wood color.
Hi,
I have just finished installing a cedar deck and skirt boards and have learned through your Q&As that I should wait until the spring to apply the finish. I really want to preserve the look of the cedar and am concerned that I will not be able to get that look back through the cleaning and prepping process in the spring. Also I was thinking about using the transparent natural but you have indicated that it is not as U/V resistant as a semi. Would that mean I would have to prep and reapply more frequently than using a tinted semi? Also, I know you cannot guarantee the final finish but if I went with a tinted semi what would give me the closest to natural cedar look the cedar of the western red cedar? Deck boards I have used have a lot of red, white and golden hues. Thanks
Natural being the lightest has the least amount of UV protection. You can use this on cedar shake roofs. Best to use a semi-transparent color.

You can use the hose and pressure nozzle, but a pressure washer is much faster.
Hello, I have a 16 year old pressure treated pine deck. I am currently sanding off the top layer so I can get to the good wood. Plan to use the Restore clean/brighten kit before staining.
1. Must ALL of the gray on the wood be removed, or will the cleaner/brightener take care of any small spots that I may have missed. Between the spindles is difficult to get to.
2. I’ve read some comments on another site that even after curing the color “wiped off on our clothes”. A replier questioned whether there was any “back wiping” which would remove the curing oils. Can you comment and recommend THE BEST way to apply your stain?
3. The newly sanded pt deck has a greenish hue as one would expect. We are not picky on the color…….which would you recommend that would give a nice finish?
1. Remove as much as you can. Shoot for 95%.
2. Apply evenly and let dry/cure into the wood without back wiping. It will fully dry.
3. Any color that you like will work.
It does not include railings. Best to times the height of railings by the length and then add that to the floor sq. footage.
Also, I have about 185 sq. ft. of actual deck floor….not counting the railings or spindles. Does your coverage rate include the railings or must I add that to the 185? If not, with 3ft railings is there a way to approximate the additional square footage with this deck?

AC cannot be applied over a stain of a different brand. You would have to strip or sand off the old coatings.
