Save Money on Armstrong Clark Stain and Restore A Deck Kit Combo Pack
This combo Kit come with 5 Gallons of Armstrong Clark and the RAD Deck Cleaner and Brightener Kit for prepping your wood.
1 Restore A Deck Cleaner Kit
Restore-A-Deck Cleaner and Brightener system is a powerful “eco-friendly” two part restoration system.
Step 1 Wood and Deck Cleaner that deeply cleans your wood to remove to remove dirt, grime, mold, algae and general graying. The cleaner will help prep neglected wood and or prep for re-coating with a wood or deck stain.
Step 2 Wood Brightener is used after the wood cleaner to “brighten” the wood while neutralizing the cleaner to a natural pH balance. This step will improve the overall appearance of your wood while helping the wood deck stain
The kit covers 750-1000 sq feet when mixed.
1 Armstrong Clark 5 Gallon Pail
Armstrong-Clark’s deck and siding wood stain makes use of conditioning oils that part from the drying oils in the formula. The nondrying oils penetrate into the wood and take the place of the wood’s diminishing natural oils. This process revives and restores wood.
The drying oils stay on the wood surface and lock in the conditioning oils to produce a barrier that is dry to the touch. Armstrong’s deck and siding wood stain contain vegetable oils in addition to transparent pigments, solvents, mildewcides and water repellents.
- Application can be done in direct sunlight and on hot days. If the first coat of stain penetrates within 30 minutes an additional coat may be applied for extra protection.
- Applies easily by roller, brush, or airless sprayer. During spraying – going back over with a brush or roller will help give a more even appearance. After 24 hours any remaining puddles or glossy spots can be removed using a dry rag.
- Older wood is reconditioned by deep penetrating nondrying oils.
- Drying oils lock in the conditioning oils while pigments and water repellents lock out moisture and UV damage.
- Armstrong wood stain is compliant with all environmental standards.
- Does not contain any offensive odors.

Hello I’m not sure what to do about my deck. I used the cleaner and brightener. Then stained with Natural Oak semi transparent stain. The area of the deck that’s covered is much darker than the rest of the deck. How do I even it out?
You could try a very light coat for the outside area. Do a test board first to make sure it dries to te color you want.
Hi, I applied one coat of the semi-transparent stain on my deck 2 days ago, intending to apply a 2nd coat yesterday. Unfortunately it rained yesterday, so I could not proceed. How long must I give the deck to dry before I can apply a 2nd coat?
Yes, 48 hours.
Hi, I sanded, stripped, brightened my 3year old deck in preparation to stain, then had a pergola built which led me to clean and brighten again. I finally got to stain the deck in a dry weather window: 2 coats on the vertical boards but only one coat on the horizontal boards. I had planned on doing a 2nd coat 24hrs later, but a surprise rainfall prevented that. The good news is that the deck had a solid 20hrs to dry before the rain, so the water just beaded on the deck, indicating the 1st coat is working beautifully! This said, I still want to apply a 2nd coat: how long must I wait post-rain? Still a full 48hrs of dry weather with a 12-24hrs of dry weather again afterwards?
Yes, 48 hours.
Thank you!
what color stain is this?
Natural oak
I used AC semi transparent cedar stain on an older deck two years ago. I sanded it down to bare as well as cleaned and brightened at the time. Needless to say it soaked right in. I want to give it a recoat this year, can I do that after just pressure washing or do I need to clean and brighten? It’s out in the wide open here in the Northeast and does not show any discoloration from mold or mildew. Thanks.
Use the Cleaner and Brightener while pressure washing for prep.
Can you add a mildew mold resister to it? Using on house siding where snow sits a lot. Thinking of changing from semitransparent to a solid stain since the cabin is older.
AC stains already contain mildewcide in them. Use semi-solid colors.
Will the cleaner remover the old stain that’s on the deck now? Back to natural I would think.
It can but depends on much the old coating has deteriorated.
Looking to stain my deck, built from yellow cedar last summer. When is the earliest I can stain and what stain do you suggest. Do I need to use both stripper and brightener before staining? This would be a first time stain. I am looking at using the natural or cedar. Thank you.
Use Cleaner and Brightener for prep: https://www.armstrongclarkstain.com/restore-a-deck-kit
You can stain this Spring.
What is the minimum temperature at which I can clean, brighten and stain with Armstrong Clarke?
Do I have to worry about moisture content of the deck wood which is cedar.
Nothing below 50 degrees. The moisture content needs to be above 15%.
Aan this be applied in 60degrees and then night time in the 40’s, the days look good but it will get cooler during the night and not sure if this would be a problem. Please advise. Thank you.
That is fine.
Looking to do the whole deck been 7 months and needs a a first stain, full sun. Do not want a dark color but need full UV protection. Figuring the 5 gallons and cleaner. What do you suggest for a first time deck.
Use the cleaner and brightener kit and any of the semi transparent colors.
Looking at Amber.
Is it better to touch up before or after winter?.The current fading is not bad but noticeable. Willa staining protect from snow and water damage. My deck is cedarwood. Tnx
Do in Spring.
Tnx

If I ordered the Armstrong Deck Stain today what would be the delivery date to London Ontario. Postal code is N6E 2E7. Thanks. Kay
3-4 days as long as there is not a delay at the border.
After using the cleaner, brightener combination on siding, do we need to hose down for 30 minutes as is the case for decks. We are concerned not to push too much water behind the cedar siding.
Yes, you have to rinse.
Rinsing it is understood, but do you have to rinse for the full 30 minutes on the siding, where the fact that siding is vertical means drainage of the cleaner and brightener is that much more effective then on horizontal decks.
Yes, you cannot skip the full rinsing or you could run the risk of having a reaction with the stain.
Is the semi-tranparent amber choice on this the IPE AND HARDWOOD product?
Amber is a hardwood stain color, yes.
Can this stain be stored for a year or two (eg if 5 gallons is more than we need now)?
Shelf life when opened is 12 months.
Does the free shipping apply to other RAD products ordered along with the Armstrong Clark 5 gallon stain and RAD prep combo kit, namely the RAD 10 inch floor deck brush? Where are those tools on your site?
We do not sell applicator tools on this website. RAD prep products ship free.
I stained my deck about 3 years back with Armstrong stain. Do need to use brightener?
Cleaner and brightener.
How long will the stain keep in the container if we do not use all of it this year? I’m considering purchasing a 5 gallon pail, but that will definitely be more than I need this year. I’m looking at your hardwood deck stains. Thank you!
Shelf life is 12 months after opening.
I started powerwashing my deck to remove failed Thompson semi-transparent stain. After reading you site I guess I should strip & brighten first. Should I apply the stripper/brightener to the already powerwashed boards too? Would wolman brand work in the spirit of time to strip/bright? Also I was thinking of AC semi transparent. It’s p/t wood, full afternoon sun in NE Ohio but parts get mildew. Deck was cleaned and brushed w/ Scott’s cleaner in the pics.
Yes, you should trip and brighten all this wood. Not sure if the Wolman prep products will work well or not for this.
How long would it take to ship the 5 gallon + RAD kit to Northeastern ohio?
3-5 days.
Have already stripped our deck and cant find a good brightener in canada. Can we use just the radar brightener now. Also we just want yo.be able to clean an reapply every couple of years. No stripping or sanding…is the transparent a good choice?
All of the AC colors can be cleaned and recoated as needed down the road without the need to strip. Yes, use the RAD brightener.
When you said colours did you mean both transparent ,and
Semi transparent can be cleaned and recoated
Yes and the semi-solids as well. All of them.
Thanks for the quick reply. What are the best tools recommended to apply the stain, and do you sell them?
Deck stains or pads. We do not sell any from our site.
I am interested in ordering the 5 gallon and stripper/brightner kit and possibly 2 extra gallons. Are you still shipping to Ontario, Canada and do you know how long it will take? I know that with covid19 there are delays.
Yes, we are shipping there. About 1-2 weeks.
We have a redwood deck that we stained with Armstrong Sequoia about 4 years ago. Some thin and a few small grey spots are showing. I think it was sanded with 100grit before staining. We see some red that transfers to our shoes and socks. Now that it is time to prep and restrain what (steps and products) do you recommend to reduce the red transfer?
Use the RAD stripper and brightener and then stain with one coat. Do not sand.
How much semi transparent sierra redwood stain and RAD would I need to purchase for a one year old fence that is a total of 2538 sqft?
3 Kits of the RAD Cleaner/Brightener. About 20-25 gallons for two coats of the stain applied wet on wet.
I have a 30 year old deck. Just power washed, and planning on sanding this week. Should I use the cleaner/brightener or the stripper kit? Semi-transparent or Semi-solid stain?
Cleaner/Brightener kit. Semi-transparent.
I’m having someone redo my porch, it is cypress and did not last thru Harvey with the last product I used. I’m looking for the best coverage for full sun & partial shade (mildew growth). I do want color. Thank you!
Try the semi-solid colors.
Would this stain work on IPE deck? or do I have to buy an IPE specific stain?
I had used semi-transparent Mahogany stain previously and interested in re-staining my deck.
There are three colors for IPE. They are not specific stain formulas but colors designed for hardwoods: https://www.armstrongclarkstain.com/wood-and-decking-stains/hardwood-and-ipe-stain
What do you recommend using to apply this stain to a deck, railing and privacy wall? Thanks!
Stain pad or brush.
What is the minimum temperature it can be applied? And how long after and before rain does it need? (Looking at semitransparent)
45 degrees is minimum. 48 hours to dry after prep or rain before staining. 12-24 hours before it can rain on it.
Planning to use Armstrong kit on deck after 5 year old previous stain. Typical wear and tear with natural staining needs at 5 year mark. Cedar deck. Recommendations for semi trans stain after clean & bright applications? Please forward color reviews as well.
If the previous stain was not AC, you will need to strip and brighten for prep. See here for color photos: https://www.armstrongclarkstain.com/armstrong-clark-photo-album
Ok, thank you. But wouldn’t the Brightener take off the existing stain? I mean wouldn’t it be more useful, after cleaning and pressure washer the deck, to add to the stain more layers instead of taking the existing color off with the Brightener?
Thank you very much!
A brightener is not a stripper or remove color but a neutralizer of the cleaner.
Hi, I used your AC semi transparent Sierra Redwood stain 2 years ago on my new deck. To restain it this year with the same stain – do I have to clean and brighten it with your Cleaner/Brightener Kit or I could just clean it with the Cleaner and pressure wash it, before applying the stain? Thank you very much!
Use the cleaner and the brightener kit.
If we go with a lighter color stain and do not like the results, can we go to a darker stain the next year?
Yes but you will need to clean the wood first.
Would it being too difficult to go from a dark stain to lighter? We want a dark color but are concerned with our dogs nails scratching it and having the scratches be more pronounced with the darker color. If that was the case, if a couple years when it is time to restain would it be too hard to go with a lighter shade? I really would not want to sand or strip the deck. Our deck gets full sun so I am expecting the stain to fade in time.
Going from dark to light will require stripping but it is not any harder than cleaning. Just removes the previous coating.
Hi, I want to closely match my cedar railings with my ipe decking. If I plan to use the mahogany stain on the decking, what would be the best semi-transparent stain color for the railings? Chestnut?
Also, if I do not use all of the stain, what is the best way to store it for the next time (and how long can it be stored)?
thanks!
Chestnut would be closest but it will not be exact due to the different wood types. Store in a closed container and in a temperature controlled room.
How much uv protection does the natural tone offer? It will be used on cedar.
The Natural is the lightest tint which means it has the least amount of UV protection of all the colors. How much tint in the stain is directly related to UV protection.
